3 promises for the next year
If you’re making New Year’s promises list, include some environmentally friendly pledge as well. Here are some ideas for inspiration.
#1 GET INTO SHAPE – EAT A HEALTHIER.
Fitness pledges are surely the world’s most popular New Year’s resolution. The best way to start is by eating right. Eating the right amount of salads, and chicken or fish instead of pork or beef will make the kilos disappear as if by magic. In addition, you’ll be doing something great for the environment, as the ecological footprint of 1 kg of chicken is four times lower than that of beef; 1 kg tomatoes have a footprint that is 25 times smaller than beef.
FOOD´S CARBON FOOTPRINT
#2 USE A REUSABLE COFFEE CUP
Set an environmentally friendly rule for yourself and ask the barista to pour your coffee into your own reusable container. An average filling station sells 500 coffee cups a day. EVERY DAY IN ESTONIA, 200,000 disposable coffee cups are used and discarded.Environmentally friendly petrol stations and coffee places will allow you to use your own thermos.
#3 DO SOMETHING AMAZING – SAVE 3 LITRES OF WATER BY DRINKING 1 LITRE OF WATER
Every minute, 1 MILLION plastic bottles are sold, and most of them end up in incinerators, landfills or the ocean. If the current trend continues, there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by weight by the year 2050. This kind of resource use isn’t sustainable. It’s much more sustainable to use reusable bottles! One half-litre water bottle takes three times more water to manufacture than it holds. Thus, for every litre that you drink from your own reusable bottle, you save 3 litres of water!
